Text | During the past winter the [Michigan] State Supreme Court rendered a decision holding that pool selling was not gambling, and since the base ball season commenced nearly a score of pool rooms have been established in Detroit, their patrons being principally men and boys who are interested in the game. Manager Chapman has studiously refused to give any information as to the disposition of his players in advance of the game, in order to prevent, as far as possible, the sale of pools on the game. Recently the police raided the pool rooms, and the President of the Detroit Club authorized the statement that he and his colleagues will do all in their power to drive the pool sellers out of town. |
