Text	[Excelsior vs. Putnam 10/22/1859] One outsider was found who was self-sacrificing enough to stand umpire, while the remainder of the hundred spectators herded together in one shivering mass, seeking protection from the cold. The view presented was, to say the least, amusing–the “outs” resorting to various devices to keep them warm; while those players who had no gloves would not permit the others to use such “protectives.
