Text | The catcher goes up under the bat at the sixth called ball—sometimes at the fifth—in order to steady the pitcher, and to prevent more than one base being run on the seventh call, as might be the case if he stood back and the ball should chance to bound into the grand-stand or somewhere else out of reach. |
