Text | Umpires this season are especially cautioned as to care in calling strikes on a batsman. He must be absolutely certain, with no shadow of a doubt that the ball passed over the home plate. After being assured of that fact he must next decide as to whether it was high or low as called for, although in this such care is not strictly necessary as in deciding on its coming over the plate, for it may be a little lower or a little higher than called for, and yet a good ball to strike at. In calling balls there must be no hesitancy in calling every ball that is not over the plate, and if there is any doubt, it must be decided in favor of the batsman. |
