Text | [Athletic vs. Mutual 10/6/1874] On this occasion Matthews put forth his full strength as a pitcher, and made the field’s work exceedingly easy. He is the strength of the Mutual Club, and on his efforts depend their chances for victory. He has several weak fielders back of him, while the batting of the nine is, as a rule, very poor indeed.
