Text | Esterbrook’s hands are very sore. He plays third base with gloves. St. Louis Post-Dispatch August 25, 1885 In a game at New York, Connor, the first-baseman of the New Yorks, threw his glove down by the bag, and so intent were all the players on the game that a little dog ran across the grass, picked up the glove, and ran off with it without being detected by anybody, save some persons in the audience.
