Text | Amateur ball tossing has taken a new turn this season, and in the place of regularly organized amateur clubs, amateur nines have sprung up organized under the auspices of leading mercantile banking houses to an extent that is really surprising. ... The growth of these amateur nines has, of course, interfered with the formation of amateur clubs. Ultimately, however, these players will work into regular club organizations. In the meantime quite an excitement is created by the rivalry for the lead in the several houses of our business community, as to which of their nines will fly the whip pennant this season. |
