Text | [Baltimore vs. Cincinnati 6/6/1882] The bases were now full, and nobody out. Jacoby, the fourth batter, struck three times, Snyder [catcher] purposely dropped the third strike, picked up the ball, put his foot on the plate, forcing out Meyers at home, threw to Carpenter, forcing out Whiting at third and Carpenter threw to second, forcing out Householder at second. Pearce [umpire] had cried “Striker out,” before he saw that Snyder had dropped the ball, and at once corrected his decision. This created a stubborn kick upon the part of the visitors, which delayed the game quite a while. |
