Text | [Eclipse vs. Cincinnati 9/13/1882] In the eighth the Kentuckians made a good effort. Hecker and Wolfe batted safely, and matters looked decidedly hard for a tie. Sullivan, however, struck out. Snyder, however, dropped the ball, and, throwing it to Carpenter, it was passed around by second to first, and before the astonished Louisvillians or the excited crowd could understand it, three men had been extinguished. The spectators were rather slow in getting on to the play, but when they did they applauded most heartily. |
