Text | [from an interview of Jimmy Wood] R.–Have you any suggestion to make as to base running? Mr. W.–I have. I would allow a runner to overrun the second and third bases, just as he does the first. R.–Why? Mr. W.–Because it would prevent a great many serious accident, both to the basemen and to the runner. This was Mr. Chadwick’s original proposition, and it ough5t to have been adopted at the time. As we have seen the wisdom of over-running the first base, so we should be allowed to over-run the other bases. |
