Text | [Boston vs. Athletic 9/10/1874] Leonard [at first base]...ran to second, and slid in beautifully under Fisler [second baseman], who handled the ball rather slowly, which Clapp [catcher] threw to him, and, on appeal, the umpire said “Not out.” After listening to remarks by the Athletic players, he changed his decision, in direct violation of the rules, which prohibit any reversal of a decision on the testimony of players in cases of bases being run. |
