Text | [from answers to correspondents] A new rule was made in 1879 to the effect that after the first inning the first striker in each inning shall be the batsman whose name follows that of the last man who has completed his turn (time) at bat in the preceding inning. This interpretation of the rule seems to have been omitted from the official book during the last two seasons. New York Clipper June 25, 1881 [N.B. The rules made no mention of the order of batting from one inning to the next. This was not inserted until 1888.] |
