Text | [from Chadwick's column] Ferguson's suggested improvement in placing the first and third-base bags on foul ground is a greatly needed amendment. Then every all hit directly to the ground which passes over or touches either of these base-bags will be declared foul, and the decision will be plain to the spectators. But the dual advantage of the suggested amendment lies in the fact that if a ball hits the bag while it lies on foul ground and is thereby diverged from its course, no fielder will be prevented from fielding the ball, as is now the case with the bags on fair ground. |
