Text | [Athletics vs. Atlantics 10/22/1866] About 2500 persons were within the enclosure, so that the ground committee had no difficulty in keeping a fair field–although plenty of policemen were on hand if they had been needed. The embankment that lies to the left and south of the ground, was covered with spectators as deeply interested in the result as those inside, but who thought the tax of $1 admission a swindle, and so expressed themselves. |
