Text | It seems impossible that a mute should be able to umpire, but Ed Dundon, the well-known mute pitcher, did so satisfactorily in a game at Mobile, Ala., last week. He used the fingers of the right hand to indicate strikes, the fingers of the left to call balls, a shake of the head decided a man “not out,” and a wave of the hand meant “out.” There was not kicking to speak of in the game. |
