Brooklyn Eagle July 24, 1866 the short field behind home at the Athletics ground [Irvington vs. Athletic 7/17/1866] The Irvingtons were unfortunate in being obliged in the third inning to change Bailey for Walters as pitchers, but it was rendered necessary by reason of the irregularity of his pitching, and the consequent number of passed balls, occasioned, partly, by the shortness of the field in rear of the home base.
