Data | "Base-ball" was one of the games played at a festival held at a nearby farm for children of the London-street Congregational Chapel Sunday School of Basingstoke, Hampshire: "Arrived at the meadows, the children lost no time in starting the various out-door games usual on such occasions, such as cricket, base-ball, swinging, jumping, &c., which were kept up with great spirit till about four o'clock, when the children were liberally supplied with plum cake and tea, for which their afternoon's sports had given them excellent appetites." |
