According to a newspaper, a large contingent of people traveled by train and road to the festival site. “On their arrival the party soon spread themselves far and wide in wandering through and admiring the beautiful and picturesque grounds and gardens, which were unreservedly thrown open to them, while many engaged in various rational amusements, such as cricket, foot-ball, base ball, trap-ball, bowls, quoits, &c. &c. much to the gratification of both players and spectators.” |
