Text | [Eagle vs. Empire 7/1/1864] The ruling of the Umpire was the most satisfactory we have yet seen. Every ball out of the reach of the batsman was called, and when the striker had indicated where he wanted a ball and it was pitched to him, if he did not strike the Umpire called strikes on him, only, however, when players were running their bases. This was as it should be. |
