[The prince was the father of King George III.] Per John Ford, Cricket: A Social History 1700-1835 [David and Charles, 1972], page 17: "Death of Frederick Lewis, Prince of Wales, as a result of a blow on the head from a cricket ball." Ford does not give a citation. Others attribute the Prince's death to a tennis incident; neither theory seems fully credible, as death was not immediate, and "an abscess" of the lung was believed to be the proximal cause of death. |
