"The American club in Rome, Italy is progressing, and some of the players there are said to be very fair...." The article goes on to discuss baseball in Europe and China.
 
The Port Jervis (NY) Tri-States Union, March 17, 1870 prints a letter from a visitor to Rome who says that a base ball gamed was played on the "Great Square."
 
Rome is Italy's capitol.
