Text	[from the Pittsburgh correspondent's column] It is stated on the authority of Mr. Cliff Wharton, the private secretary of Mr. Converse, one of the principal stockholders of the Pittsburgs, that the team was offered anything it wanted by Spalding, representing the League, as an inducement to join that body. One inducement was to give the Pittsburgs the pick of the first five eligible League players. It is freely admitted that the team should have a new first baseman, a middle fielder and another catcher, while a third baseman like Denny would not be out of place. When Scandrett was asked about this he said that being in the League they now had an equal chance with other teams to buy players and added that they expected to get at least three new men to strengthen weak places before spring.
