Text | Some fun is being poked at Umpire McLean for using glasses. Now, why shouldn’t McLean use glasses? Will White has used glasses ever since he has been on the ballfield; and he contrives to see a good deal of base ball and to know it, too. The Sporting Life July 16, 1884 Metroplitans return to the Polo Grounds The Metropolitan Club will resume playing on the Polo Grounds instead of the Metropolitan Park this week. Manager Jim Mutrie found it up hill work trying to establish the Metropolitan Park against the popularity of the Polo Grounds, which are centrally located and beautifully laid out.
