| Text | A re-organization of the Athletics has just been made, and it now looks as if a great deal of the old interest in the game would be revived. The new organization will be under the control of that enterprising gentleman, Mr. H. Phillips, who has managed successfully every club with which he has been connected. Fulmer will be Captain of the nine, which will be strengthened, and include four or five well-known professionals who are at present disengaged. Money has already been secured for the equipment and running of the nine, but the nine will not take the field until the Oakdale Grounds have been properly prepared for play. To effect this, an Improvement Fund will be created, of which Mr. A. J. Reach will be Treasurer. This money will be devoted exclusively to the improvement of the ground. The lovers of the game will be called upon by Messrs. Phillips, Mason and Sharswood [sic]. We hope subscriptions will be prompt and liberal. It is proposed the play the inaugural game on or about the 23d of May, with the famous Metropolitans, of New York. |
