| Text | There is one thing that ought to be a feature of the scoring rules next season, and that is giving a man credit for a sacrifice-hit that yields a run. If there is a runner on third base, with but one man out, and the batsman by his hit to the field–either by a short grounding to right short-field or a long fly-ball to the outer field which is caught–enables the runner to come home, though the batsman is thereby put out, such a hit ought to be credited the same as a base-hit, for it yields just as much. As it is, the not giving such credit spoils a batsman’s record, and this acts as reason for his not “playing for the side” by making such a hit. The Convention was held with doors closed to the representatives of the local press, Mr. Mills being assigned the duty of preparing such a report of the proceedings as was deemed necessary.
