Text | Hulbert of Chicago advances the theory that the value of a batter actually depends upon how many runs he brings in. for example, Gore at Cincinnati made four consecutive base-hits, but neither scored himself nor brought home anyone else; so, to all intents and purposes, the result would have been just the same if he had struck out four times, instead of hitting clean. |
