Text	The most objectionable phases of baseball gambling were openly countenanced; players charging each other with fraud were pronounced guiltless after a mockery of trial; and so bad did things become that, at the annual meeting of the club, it was found necessary to enact a constitutional law requiring every club official to take oath that he would not countenance the “throwing” of a game, before he could take office.
