Text | The field of the Athletic Club never presented a neater appearance. In fact, it is now the best as regards its condition, of all fields outside of Brooklyn. The turf is smooth and level, and it is to be kept down by constant cutting; and the ground on the line of the bases and around the base-bags is soft and dry, so as to prevent injury in sliding in on the bases. The foul-lines, besides, extend the whole length of the field, thus enabling the umpire to decide correctly on long foul-balls. |
