Text | [Boston vs. Philadelphia 7/10/1873] A word to Malone. In the Keystones you acquired the noisy habit of shouting, when an opponent is about to catch a ball. This is mean. It is vulgar. It is unworthy. Stop it. If we were umpire and a man dropped a fly as Manning did, owing to the ill-bred shouting of the other side, we would declare it “interfering” with the fielder, and would give the hand out. The Philadelphias are too big to do little things. They should win, if they are to win, in big style. Let Malone speak to Cuthbert, and to other screamers. |
