Text | [Philadelphia vs. Boston 6/17/1873] Every seat was taken and every inch of standing room, and hundreds of people were obliged to take positions at the lower end of the field across which a rope was stretched to prevent interference with the out-fielders. The grand stand was crowded with ladies, and in all the number of spectators must have reached nearly 6,000. |
