Text	[Forest City of Cleveland vs. Chicago 6/3/1870] Owing to a previous agreement, which was that the first match played by the Chicago nine with a visiting club should be with the Forest City of Rockford, June 15, it was understood that the contest with the Clevelanders should be technically considered a “practice game”–that is, a game which should not go upon the record. Both clubs were willing to enter into the arrangement, although it was well understood that, should the White Stockings get beaten, they could not shelter themselves behind the plea of a “practice game,” and so with the Forest City.
