Text	[picked nines New York vs. Brooklyn 7/20/1858] The stands being thronged with spectators, the committee found it necessary to permit a large number to enter the field; and these, ranging themselves inside of a semi-circle formed by the gaily-decorated omnibuses, (which had been chartered by many of the clubs for the conveyance of their members to the ground,) at a distance sufficiently removed to be out of the way of the players, gave to the scene–in connection with the crowd on the stands–the appearance of an amphitheatre crowded with an assemblage eager and anxious to witness the sports of the arena.
