Description

US troops were stationed in Greenland during World War II, and while there played baseball. The Portland Oregonian, May 21, 1943, under the headline "Plane Lands, Baseball Game Starts," interviews Frank J. Taylor, a crew member of a Catalina navy patrol plane flying the chilly north Atlantic waters. Taylor says the 10-man crew play baseball wherever the plane lands. "We play regularly in Iceland and even in Greenland, and what a cold place that is!"
