| Text | In what appears to be only the second game of the 1855 season [see the Protoball Games Tab at http://retrosheet.org/Protoball/GamesTab.htm], "a grand match of this national game" took place at Elysian Fields and pitted the Knicks against the Eagles. A 9-run 4th put the Knicks into the [imaginary] win column after leading only 12-12 after two. Player positions aren't listed, but DeBost [Knicks] and Place [Eagles] are noted as "behind men." The reporter added: "Wadsworth [Knicks] makes too many foul balls; he must alter his play." "Base Ball. Knickerbocker vs. Eagle Club," New York Herald, June 6, 1855.
