Peverelly [page 96] reports that the Charter Oak Club of Hartford lost 45-37 to the Pioneer Club of Springfield MA.
The Springfield Republican June 9, 1866 mentions the Pioneer of Springfield.
The Springfield Republican, April 23, 1858 reports the formation of this club. Same, Aug. 16, 1858, had an ad for the meeting of the "Pioneer Base Ball Club," at the Russell House, "this evening."
Same June 4, 1858: "The weekly game of base ball comes off on Hampden park this afternoon, the games alternating between Thursday and Friday from week to week."
