Description

The Match Game of Base Ball -

The match game between the Old Dominion and
Mt. Vernon clubs, came off yesterday evening,
on the grounds of the former, near Colross,
resulting in a victory for the Old Dominion, by
of score of 50 to 15. The game was called [ed. - scheduled] at
2 1/2 o'clock, but it was nearly 3 before playing
began. The Old Dominions were first at the
bat, scoring eight [??] for a start. The fielding
of the Mt. Vernon, considering the short
practice of the club, was excellent, Mr. Add
Warfield making several fine fly catches, which
called forth the applause of the spectators.
The Old Dominions' fielding was the principle [sic]
cause of the victory for them, the Mt. Vernons
doing much better work at the bat - Kell's service
at the bat were much missed, he not being
in his usual trim. The game was one of
deep interest to all parties concerned, being the
first match game over played in this city. Both
sides deserve great credit for the improvement
the have made.  Mr. McAuly of the Jefferson Club
of Washington, acted as Umpire, and
gave great satisfaction by his impartial decision
creating a most favorable impression on
both clubs. McLean and Claridge, acted as
scorers.
