Description

"The Newport Base Ball Club has been organized." This club soon became known as the Holt Base Ball Club in honor of one of its founders, William Holt.

Newport KY is across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. In 1860 it was the 92nd largest US city, with a population of about 10,000.

In 1877 this club played on the parade ground of the Newport Army Barracks (now, Taylor Park). Cincinnati Star, Aug. 2, 1877. [ba]
