Text | [Chicago vs. Washington 5/18/1889] Anson waxes wroth in the ninth when Hoy hit a grounder just off first and Barnum permitted the base runner to hold the base on Anson's error. Pfeffer and Gumbert were both at the bag, but Anson wanted the put-out himself, and so, holding the ball, he did a foot-race with Hoy for the bag. The deaf one took first money and Anson turned three shades of red when the umpire said “Not out. |
