"New B.B. Club.--The Macklebacks and the Fifth Nationals of Edgefield have organized themselves into a base ball club, to be known as the "Cheatham Base Ball Club," in honor of our distinguished fellow-citizen, Gen. B. Frank Cheatham. The following young men were elected officers: Robt. S. Miller, President; W.S. Newsom, Vice President; Thos. A. White, Secretary; J.T. Merritt, Treasurer; Captain of the first nine, Robt. H. Newsom; Captain of the second nine, Robert J. Stewart."
