Description

The Gallipolis Journal, May 28, 1868: "The Gallia Club came of victorious in the match game, played last week, with the Valley Club, of Charleston, the score standing 62 to 32."

The article also mentions that the two city's junior teams also played. The contest was in Charleston.

Although there is a Charleston in Ohio, I believe this refers to Charleston, WV. First off, the Ohio Charleston is nowhere near Gallipolis, Ohio. More importantly, Gallipolis is on the Ohio River just downriver from where the Kanawha River flows into the Ohio, and Charleston is on the Kanawha not too far from Gallipolis.
