| Description | On Oct. 24, 1869, the St. Vincent's College and Energetic BBCs of Los Angeles played for the city championship, on the grounds opposite St. Vincent College. St. Vincent's won, 47-23. Sacramento Daily Union, Oct. 26, 1869 San Francisco Daily Evening Bulletin, Oct. 30, 1869: "Los Angeles, October 29: The Energetics of this city and the St. Vincent's College Baseball Clubs are to play a game soon for the championship." Same, Nov. 9, 1869 says the Energetics won this game 25 to 20. St. Vincent's was founded in Los Angeles in 1865. Future Major Leaguer Fred Snodgrass attended St. Vincent's much later. There was an intersquad baseball game in LA April 4, 1860 (see club listing). This appears to be the first match game. |
