Nine Class Senior
Description

Morris et al., "Baseball Pioneers: 1850-1870," p. 125, notes that while baseball was played in Cleveland as early as 1857, the first club, the Forest City, was not formed until late August 1865. The first game of the Forest City was Oct. 20, 1865, at "the Old State Fair Grounds," with Forest City losing to the Penfield Club of Oberlin College 67-28.

By 1866 "at least 11 new clubs" had been formed in Cleveland, and a prize was being offered for the championship team of the Western Reserve.

This club by 1869 or so was sometimes called the "Blue Stockings"

Win/Loss Records As Far As We Now Know

Warning: Users should not rely on a team's won-loss record as a reflection of its "standing" among all base ball clubs. Team schedules were not balanced, and a good record against mostly weak opponents does not signify a leading club.
