Base Ball-At a convention of base ball players in Washington recently an association was formed known as the "Base Ball League of Maryland and the District of Columbia." Arrangements were made for playing a series of championship games during the season. The first of these was played yesterday afternoon at Newington Park, between the Excelsior Club, of Baltimore, and the Waverly Club, of Baltimore county, resulting in favor of the Waverly Club by a score of 7 to 8. The players and their respective positions were as follows: Excelsior Club-Delaney, l.f.; Welsh, c.; Stone, 2d b.; Marshall, 1st b.; Benson, c.f.; Tucker, p.; Bosley, 3rd b.; Sharp, s.s.; Hadock, r.f.
Waverly Club-Morgan, c.; Busick, l.f.; Da?ley, p.; Fontz. 1st b.; Frazier, 3rd b.; Pierce, 2nd b.; Matthew, s.s.; Hayward, c.f.; Slade, r.f.
Marshall, Benson and Tucker of the Excelsior Club made one run each; of the Waverly Club, two runs each were made by Morgan and Peirce, and one by Dalley, Fouts and Matthew. Wm. Laughlin was the Umpire and George Bailey scorer for the Excelsior Club, and P. S. Dickey scorer for the Waverly Club. J. F. Haywood is captain of the Waverly Club and Charles Tucker captain of the Excelsior. Time of game, one hour and forty five minutes.
