The Gadsden Times May 21, 1869, reports on a meeting held on the 17th to organize a base ball club. Same, May 28, 1869, the Etowah Base Ball Club will play a match game on the 20th instant, on the play ground near Captain Barret’s.

Gadsden AL (pop. 103,000: 1880 population under 1700) is about 60 miles NE of Birmingham.
