Description | The Empire Club grounds were described as "east of the fair grounds" (Freeport Journal, Oct. 4, 1865). The old fair grounds, described as being on "Lincoln Ave.," were sold in 1867 and new fair grounds purchased on Walnut St. (same, June 27, Oct. 2, 1867). "Lincoln Ave." is today's Lincoln Blvd. After reviewing old maps, the Empire grounds would be near where the city cemetery now is (902 W. Lincoln). |
