| Description | The Daily Illinois State Journal, June 15, 1869, reports that the Eckfords of Springfield beat a "select nine" yesterday 29 to 28. Same, Aug. 19, 1869, says the Excelsiors first nine beat the Eckfords second nine 51-29 yesterday. The Daily Illinois State Journal, Aug. 24, 1870, reports that the Eckfords of Springfield beat the Lightfoots of Chatham 54-27 at Chatham yesterday. Same, Jul 43, 1871 has the Eckfords "of this city" losing to the visiting Aetnas of Chicago 48-10, and gives a box score. The Daily Illinois State Register [of Springfield], Aug. 10, 1871: "The Eckford club is to play a game of base ball at the Liberty grounds, with the Empire, of Chillicothe, Mo., on Thursday next." |
