Description

The New York Mercury, June 3, 1860, reported that the Duquesne BBC of Pittsburgh is "in a prosperous condition." The club plays "on the Commons opposite the Theological Seminary." See also, "Early Games".

This site must be the Allegheny Commons. The 1861 Pittsburgh/Allegheny city directory has the "theological seminary" on the corner of Buena Vista and Shanopin. Shanopin (Shanapine) was then the northern boundary of the commons, with Buena Vista a north-south street running into Shanopin from the north, near the Penitentiary.

The Pittsburgh Daily Post, June 14, 1860 mentions the Duquesne BBC and the Alaquippa [sic] BBC.

Win/Loss Records As Far As We Now Know

Warning: Users should not rely on a team's won-loss record as a reflection of its "standing" among all base ball clubs. Team schedules were not balanced, and a good record against mostly weak opponents does not signify a leading club.
