Biography

Conrad Albes was born in Hanover, Germany in 1835, and emigrated to the United States in 1854. He moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, and established himself as a grocer. In 1863 he relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, and eventually joined the Rock City Club of that city. By the early 1870s, he had moved to Decatur, Alabama, and ran the Bismarck Hotel there for the rest of his life.

Another Albes, "TH Albes," is listed as being a member of the Rock City Club, but has not been further identified.
