Description | Chetwynd, "Baseball in Europe," p. 74, 75, says that visiting Japanese sailors inspired local Belgians in 1923 to form the first known "native-born" baseball team, the Antwerp Cats. Several teams of locals were formed, often coached by the Japanese. Note--a US Army/Navy team in Antwerp competed in a 1919 baseball tournament played by servicemen in Europe. See Brussels. |
