Description

The 1867 Camden City 'Directory lists the Camden Base Ball Grounds as being at 5th and Penn Streets. This is near the present-day Rutgers Law School, at 217 N. 5th.

In 1864 the Camden BBC grounds were said to be near Diamond Cottage, said to be in a park on the south side of Penn below 7th. Same spot? The 1872 directory lists a Diamond Cottage at 7th and Cooper, Cooper being the east-west street south of Penn and north of Market.

The 1858 town ball game between the Olympic of Philadelphia and the Camden Club of Camden was played "near Diamond Cottage" (Phil. Ledger, May 18, 1858; Phil. Inquirer, May 20, 1858). Diamond Cottage Gardens was a popular picinic and parade ground spot.
